When it comes to looking at your whole health picture, it’s often a good idea to begin with your gut.
It is the basis of everything and a lot of inflammation can start there which is one of the most common causes of chronic illness. Eighty percent of the immune system is actually found in the digestive system! If you are experiencing skin issues or autoimmune conditions there will likely always be a gut connection. Consuming processed foods/chemicals and unnatural foods can confuse the body’s natural responses, making it more likely to trigger an auto-immune response, as the body begins to attack tissues and molecules it thinks could be harmful. It’s always a good idea to test your body’s reaction to different foods by a process of elimination - try cutting sugar, removing gluten or dairy, or reducing your meat or grain consumption. Fiber is very helpful for increasing gut health and probiotic rich foods like kimchi, sauerkraut, or kefir will help increase the good bacteria levels in our gut. Some failsafe additions to your diet that are naturally anti-inflammatory are dark berries, like blueberries and blackberries, leafy greens, almonds, oily fish, spices like turmeric, ginger and oregano, cruciferous veggies like cauliflower and bok choy, low sugar fruits like apples and pears and healthy oils like coconut and hemp. A few adjustments to your diet can make a world of difference for your overall health and will feel empowering as well!
